Quality & Sustainability

First voluntary ESG report

At Glorit, we think ahead: not only about excellent architecture and the highest quality of living, but also about the world we live in. Sustainability, social interaction, and responsible action are not extras for us—they are part of our foundation.

As Glorit, we were originally classified as a large company in terms of European sustainability reporting (CSRD) and would therefore have been subject to reporting requirements from 2025 onwards. With the new thresholds proposed in the European Union's Omnibus Package, we will no longer be subject to mandatory sustainability reporting in the future.

Nevertheless, Glorit has been working intensively on the topic of sustainability over the past three years and, in this context, has compiled its first voluntary ESG report in accordance with the guidelines of European sustainability reporting.

With the support of an external consulting firm, the sustainability strategy was developed for the first time, and 26 ESG targets and 44 measures were derived.

Sustainability in our construction projects

For over 50 years, the construction of high-quality houses has been deeply rooted in Glorit's DNA. Each house is individually adapted to the respective local conditions and usually has a full basement. The houses are designed by our in-house team of architects, manufactured by our experienced employees in our own production facility in Groß-Enzersdorf, and then erected on site by our own fitters.

With a clear commitment to timber construction, Glorit contributes to sustainability and the promotion of the circular economy in the construction industry. For decades, we have been using timber frame houses, which are classified as low-energy buildings, for our single-family and multi-family homes. Wood offers a number of advantages as a building material:

  • Wood is a renewable raw material that binds CO2 during its growth and stores it in the wood, thus having a positive CO2 balance.
  • The production of wood requires less energy than the manufacture of concrete or steel, which also leads to lower CO2 emissions.
  • The timber frame construction method allows for a high degree of prefabrication in the factory, which leads to faster construction times and conservation of resources on the construction site.
  • Timber frame walls provide high insulation performance with low wall thicknesses, which leads to more living space.
  • Wood naturally regulates temperature and humidity, which leads to a pleasant indoor climate.

Sustainable building materials and technology

At Glorit, we focus on maximum energy efficiency and build exclusively modern low-energy houses with a heating requirement of around 30 to 44 kWh/m². This means that our houses consume significantly less energy than traditional older buildings – a noticeable advantage for our customers, not only in terms of energy consumption but also in terms of ongoing heating and cooling costs.

We also regularly achieve top ratings in category A for the overall energy efficiency factor (fGEE) – reliable proof of the sustainable construction and high energy quality of our projects.

For optimal thermal insulation, we use a high-quality composite thermal insulation system from Sto in our houses. This is complemented by durable wood-aluminum windows with triple glazing from the Austrian quality brand Hrachowina, which combine excellent insulation values with stylish design.

In addition, we work exclusively with high-quality partners and brands such as Hansgrohe, Villeroy & Boch, Kunex, and Evva, because we follow the credo “longevity through quality.”

In this way, we create living spaces that are not only impressive today, but are also built for the future.

Air heat pump

All our systems completely dispense with fossil fuels for heating. In house construction, a highly efficient air heat pump ensures a particularly comfortable atmosphere, low heating costs, and efficient cooling.

In residential construction, all new residential projects are powered by a heat pump with deep drilling using geothermal energy. Thermal component activation uses heating or cooling systems, in which water-carrying pipes run through walls, ceilings, or floors, to regulate the temperature.

Energy generation through photovoltaics

Sustainability does not begin in the details, but rather on the roof: nearly all of our new construction projects are equipped with a photovoltaic system as standard. This allows our houses and apartments to harness the power of the sun for a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy supply.

For our customers, this means not only lower operating costs, but also an active contribution to climate protection. The solar energy generated can be used directly in the household or – depending on the equipment – also stored or fed into the grid.

Regionality

Our regional focus on the greater Vienna area enables short transport routes and low CO2 emissions – while also creating the basis for sustainable partnerships with local suppliers, professionals, and service providers.

Waste management concept

Our goal is not only to use wood as a renewable building material, but also to gradually replace other materials—such as insulation materials—with recycled or renewable alternatives. To this end, we developed a waste management concept in 2024 in collaboration with a higher technical college (HTL) for environmental and economic engineering in the field of construction technology.

Sustainable projects we are proud of

The first honey on site

On our company premises in Groß-Enzersdorf, we have created the first home on site for 200,000 bees. These industrious yellow and black builders provide us with our delicious Glorit honey. More information.

Danube Clean Up

For a better quality of life – above and below the water!

During the second Danube Clean Up, 15 dedicated divers literally dove in to clean up the river, bringing nearly 300 kg of debris from the Old Danube to the surface and disposing of it properly. Among the curious finds were everything from discarded city bikes to forgotten wristwatches.

Glorit supports biodiversity with insect hotel

In cooperation with the ObstStadt Wien association, Glorit has built a handmade insect hotel on the Upper Old Danube—right in the middle of a meadow orchard that provides a habitat for humans and animals. The hotel, which also serves as an information board, was manufactured at the Glorit factory in Groß-Enzersdorf and raises awareness among passers-by of the importance of biodiversity in urban areas.

The project is part of a larger initiative to promote biodiversity in Vienna. Committed tree sponsors care for fruit trees there, whose fruits may be harvested according to the FAIR use principle.

With the insect hotel, Glorit is sending a visible signal for sustainable construction and showing that ecological responsibility extends beyond its own construction projects.
